Almost everyone was watching with intent. As his first outing, he did great! All the prayers and his hard work seemed to have paid off. The Yuvraj Singh story is the story of a hero who is fighting back to get back his glory. This story has heroism, drama, and a constant struggle with life. When people had doubts on his comeback in cricket with the quagmire of cancer drowning him, he has worked to get out and make a comeback. His story gives people hope - A hope that they can do it too! Welcome back Yuvi!!!! Anna Hazare wins over IPL on Social Media

Although there has been a lot of contemplation that Anna Hazare's popularity ( India's first social media revolution ) will reduce once IPL begins, the results have been quite mixed. Looking at the world wide search trends, Anna Hazare's presence has been approximately 40% more than the search volume of IPL 4 till now. But as expected IPL's popularity increased and Anna Hazare's search popularity reduced since IPL began. The adage that "public memory is too short" has been proven again. The masses have given their vote to IPL 4 but interestingly the news reference volume of Anna Hazare has been much more as compared to IPL 4, which is encouraging. It is quite against the general opinion that journalists have sold the news out to corporates or politicians (especially more after the Nira Radia, Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghvi scandal). To go deeper into "why" the news reference volume of Anna Hazare hsa been high and are they showing him in a positive ...

Satyam Layoff - The big trade off for Satyam layoff - Part 2

Satyam Layoff is round the corner as there are reports that it may layoff 5000 people anytime. The company and government both are in a catch22 situation. The revival of the company requires cutting the cost that would mean chopping off the bench strength or the unnecessary accumulated employees by its founder. By doing so Satyam could trigger a domino effect that would cause others to do so in an economic recession by citing its example. The winter of 2008 was almost tragic to the fate of the company. There are reports that contracts to the company are reducing. The CEO of Satyam, Vineet Nayyar says that the IT giant has nearly 10,000 surplus staff. The past record of the Mahindra's suggest that they mean business and looking at the way things are proceeding there is a layoff looming round the corner. In a chat with an MBA graduate now in his mid 30's and working with a well known multi national company, his attitude suggested me that he was more of a burden on the organizat...

Nano car, Big presence - Nanomics

Small Car, Big Idea: Tata Motors have announced that within two years Nano will travel to U.S. By 2011 it is all set to reach European market. The price of the car would be approximately $2,300, according to a reuters report . The Tata Nano got an overwhelming response despite all the criticism on environment, traffic and load on natural resources. Now let us imagine that all of us who own big cars send our car to an exchange chamber, pay its one time rent($2,300), and get a nano. Now I'm saying an exchange chamber because all of us can drive one car at a time. The big car that we are driving today will shine in our parking lot and Nano will power us through. The beauty of Nanomics is that we are paying less for the fuel, maintenance and also saving our time. Nanomics has some drawbacks too. The exchange chamber does not melt the existing resources, such as the body of your car. The pressure on natural resources will be there and considerable fuel will be spent on making the car. P...

The Google challenger is here

Microsoft Bing : Microsoft will be coming up with Bing , a decision engine that will challenge the dominance of the god of search - "Google". It is a move that could either give the web a new era of search or could reiterate the fact that Google is the best. The search war has heated up as finally a competitor to Google's search will finally be out in the open. Google, the world's top brand with a brand value exceeding $100 billion is gearing up for its first fight in the search arena. There have been critics (whom I admire) who have tried to be (as always) Google disciples and have rejected Bing. The part that impresses me is that Microsoft has shown up the courage to stand up to the search behemoth and say " Hey Beware!!! We are coming ".Not many can do that. The second and the most important thing will be what they are offering. Looking at the initial presentation, Microsoft Bing looks impressive. The decision engine i.e. Microsoft's Bing is evolvin...

Racism in Australia

Racism in Australia : The recent attacks on Indian students in Australia is a reminder of the fact that when it comes to fighting back, we lack unity and power. In the recent cases of violence against Indians, one thing has been common. Indians are not welcome to Australia, which is also indicated by constant denial by Australian PM, Kevin Rudd. I was shocked when I saw the reports of the racist attacks and the response to it on Times Now. A high ranking police official went on record saying that Indians were passive and hence were the victims of opportunistic crime. What the hell! Does a passive individual not have a right to live ? And what right do you have to come and screw up a guy just because he poses no threat and because being a guest he is well behaved. Does the police official mean that Aussies are active and passive Aussies have been dealt the same way. I am not sad because a few Australians (not all) reacted in this way. I am sad to see a cow like response from India. Are ...

Punjab riots : The riots in Punjab after Vienna killing - Is India Still deeply divided ?

The Punjab riots, which took place as a backlash of killing in Vienna wasn't in good taste, even more since the voice of a secular united India are getting stronger. Getting out on the streets and vandalizing property is something that shows that how far behind we are despite all modern ideas. The area of Punjab has seen a lot of violence in the last century and still people have a hunger for more. The violence began within hours of the attack in Vienna, where armed six men stormed into a Gurudwara. This led to the death of the religious leader, Sam Rama Nand, who was opposed by several Sikh groups. Under the masquerade of backlash, the opportunists looted shops, robbed people of their hard earned money. The dynamics of this backlash are of a somewhat different nature, with the cause being social divide rather than a solely religious one. Moreover, these riots bring a bad name to the country and also to the Sikhs, who are a highly regarded community. The things meant for self defe...

Double strike

These days are probably the best for Sonia Gandhi and her family. The landslide victory of the congress in the Lok Sabha Polls of 2009 and the death of Vellupillai Prabhakaran, LTTE chief, the plotter of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, bring double joy along with winds of hope. A stable government at center paved the way for a sky rocketing stock market, a feature common since 1984. Another common feature of the congress government has been the long-term decline of stock market. The BJP victory in 1999 was followed by a 13% decline in the market, but rose in long term. A further introspection into the results of this election makes me believe that the opposition i.e. BJP will have to work very hard to come back to power. The congress despite a clear mismanagement of India’s security made it through. The Indian voter has gone for the secular ploy and given the congress another chance. Even after 26th November attacks on Mumbai, controlling the CBI for its own purposes and Sky-high food pr...

Maruti Ritz Review : Is Maruti Ritz another A-star ? Know more about Maruti Ritz

Maruti Ritz launch, features, price, pros and cons Maruti has come out with another premium hatchback car, Ritz. It has been launched in direct competition with Swift. Ritz and swift are all set to compete with Hyundai Getz, Skoda Fabia, UVA and i20. Pros of Maruti Ritz The Ritz is a model between A-star and swift and has been launched in direct competition with swift. Swift has about 75% market share, which is very high in this segment. Ritz and Swift, together may even manage to get an even greater share for Maruti. It also adds an option for buyers in the 4+ lakhs segment. The mileage, going by the initial reports and test conditions is very good. The fact that it has been launched in 5 models including 2 diesel ones gives the buyer an option to go for a diesel car in the B+ segment. The increasing congestion in urban areas has increased the demand in the B+ segment. So it should definately give a boost to the sales. Being a Maruti car, the service shouldn't be much of a problem...

Kolkatta Knight Riders : 10 things that went wrong

The curious case of Kolkatta Knight Riders It is the most talked about and the most laughed about team of IPL 2. It did shake a few stones in IPL-1 but this year the popularity of kolkatta knight Riders has probably exceeded combined popularity of all other teams. Kolkatta Knight Riders have presented themselves like hot and spicy chicken in front of other teams of IPL, who are more than willing to have a delicious meal. So what really went wrong ? I've compiled things that happened on Kolkatta Knight Riders during the course of IPL-2, some that boosted them and quite a few that busted them. The 10 things that went wrong for Kolkatta Knight Riders in IPL-2 #1. Four Captain Theory : A four headed monster was in the mind of John Buchanan. He ended up creating a four headed behemoth eating up each other. #2. Sourav Ganguly aka Bye Bye Dada : He was simply sliced like a infected piece and removed. #3. Over demanding owner : Imagine the pressure you are under at work when your manager...

Rann controversy

Ram Gopal Varma is again on the controversy lane, Film street, India. This time it is the parody of the national anthem that hasn't been taken too kindly by people of India. Sunil and Hemant say "I strongly feel that nobody should use our national anthem for their personal gains." Now putting the controversy aside, I'd like to ask that why small issues in this country are given so much importance than core issues. I'm highly disappointed by the voter turn out this time. People don't have time to vote but have time point fingers. Looking at Aravalli Hills and the irreversible ecological damage that has been caused, I feel cheated. What is the use of having an anthem or a flag, when we don't respect the land they are made for. Is this what was once used to be sone ki chidiya? Moreover there is nothing in the song that insults the country. It is blatant truth and we have to accept it. Its only parties with political motives that are creating chaos and dram...

Preity Zinta splits with Ness Wadia

This could be said as the IPL 2's first major casualty and probably the Kings XI Punjab is a jinxed team. I.P.L season 1 had the sreesanth - Harbhajan spat and now its another break up. On the other end Rajasthan Royal's co-owner Shilpa is making merry with Raj Kundra and probably their marriage is on the cards. IPL 2 has had another dose of masala apart from the Whacking batting I've seen in the past few days. The split between Ms Dimple and Ness was confirmed by an email sent to Kings XI Punjab team by preity. Woah! We just share a professional relationship now. On the other hand the two of the most expensive players of the tournaments have disappointed too. About $3.1 million have simply been overburdening for them or probably have given critics (Charu Sharma) a chance to take a dig. Charu Sharma - remember the last year's drama. When the structures get too big, the normal engineering principles don't work. The same goes to money. The bigger the money, the bigge...

Delhi IGI hijack scare on a Indigo airlines flight. Sequence of events that created a panic at the IGI airport in Delhi. 163 passengers of the Goa->Delhi Indigo Flight 6E 334. While the plane was airborne, it was to be an event-less journey Midway a fellow passenger started moving about the aisle a lot, following which an air hostess shouted at him 20 minutes before the plane was to reach Delhi, the pilot made a distress call None of the 163 passengers were aware of this development There was a speculation that the landing was a mock drill or maybe a hijack situation. Passengers had to stay in the plane for over 4 hours. 3 passengers, Jitendar, Sameer, and a female Hardeep were detained by the Delhi Police for questioning. Jitender Mohala has been booked for unruly behaviour and perceived threat Ref : IBNLive

Get me a panic killer

The word panic has donned the headlines of papers like the dust in a house near a busy road. The dust in my house, just takes the life out of me. The word “absolute panic“in the Times of India was referred by a person who had gone there to drop his son. The word playing like dĂ©jĂ  vu in the minds of most Indians, atleast the upper classes of the society is PANIC. Like a disease, it has spread swiftly through the air, catapulted by the media, especially television. While some people have started active campaign against some prominent journalists (Barkha Dutt), there still seems to be a slim chance of the media being under control, until another vociferous medium comes in, which is highly unlikely. But there is a need, a strong one to get some panic killers, to relieve the panicky pain, temporarily. I don’t think the crappy stuff of Headlines Today, such as over the top Bigg Boss shit that it continuously keeps airing or the internet videos that keep rolling indicating a dearth of conte...

Chandrayaan-1 : Probe lands on moon

The perfect children's day gift by ISRO The mission has been accomplished, without any hiccups. We are there, the dreams are closer as impact probe being taken by Chandrayaan -1, India's first moon mission lands on moon. Its a proud moment for all Indians and takes us into the next lap of space race. The idea of putting a flag of India on the probe was an excellent idea given by a prominent scientist and former president of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. The timing of the mission has been immaculate too. The probe has landed when India celebrates children's day, the birthday of the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is time to celebrate and finally we get to see some positive news on TV after all the ATS, Raj Thackeray, crap. Previous posts on Chandrayaan -1 Chandrayaan - 1 : The home run :- ( November 13, 2008 )Chandrayaan-1 has hit the home run. The Indian spacecraft, the 1st moon is now orbiting the poles of moon at an altitude of about 100 km. Ch...

Deshdrohi banned

The freedom of Indians have again been curbed by Maharashtra government by banning the movie Deshdrohi in Maharashtra. The state government on Wednesday banned the Hindi film `Deshdrohi', saying it would create a divide between north Indians and Marathis. Now this is what I call hypocrisy at its extreme. On one hand they divide the north Indians and Marathis and on the other they are banning a movie, claiming it could widen the rift. They let Raj Thackeray, the only Marathi Manus (Not an Indian) go scot free. Why didn't they ban him and his party for spreading violence in the state. Sometimes I feel it is very helpless with such people in power playing the dirty game. I could actually see how they played it when I saw one of their siblings (Rahul Mahajan) in the reality show Big Boss -2. The extent to which these un-ashamed politicians go is disgusting. Rohit Monserrate is another such example. People misusing power should be hanged till death. They give a bad name to the coun...

Chandrayaan - 1 : The home run

Chandrayaan-1 has hit the home run. The Indian spacecraft, the 1st moon is now orbiting the poles of moon at an altitude of about 100 km. India has now made its presence felt at a distance of 3,84,000 km from the Earth (The distance of moon from earth). I was initially skeptical about the moon mission in terms of success, but the optimism and faith in India's talent kept my hopes alive and here it is, the grand show on an international platform of our determination, perseverance and talent. The lunar mission carries five ISRO payloads and six payloads from other international space agencies including NASA, ESA, and the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency, which were carried free of cost. This home run has made India victorious in the space age, but we still have a long way to go. On one hand we have highly qualified scientists, looking to explore moon and on the other is grim picture of riots, violence, poverty, crime and illiteracy, the last being the most important. This mission might h...

ICL a flop show this year too

I didn't watch any of the matches of Indian Cricket League, promoted by the Zee group as I feel it lacks the glamour quotient as present in IPL or international cricket. Its timing this year was another nail in its coffin as the cricketing greats chose to retire in this Border Gavaskar trophy and yes it was between the arch-rivals too. The reason could be many, but the result was a poor and hurted the media buyers. The ICL received a television rating (TVR) of 0.7% between 10th october and 1st november for a target group of males above the age of 15 years. It is quite low as compared to the TVR of IPL (The BCCI 20-20 tournament) received a TVR between 4-5. The media buyers and the organizers, both are puzzled because of the aberrant outcome of television viewrship, although the stadiums were jam packed. These reaction in HT Mint explain their worries. Joy Chakraborty, chief revenue officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, a subsidiary of Essel, says he expected an average rating...

Australian Media on Border Gavaskar Series

The Australian coach Tim Nielsen backed Ricky Ponting for using his part time bowlers for pacing up the slow over rate. But the Australians atleast the media wasn't in a mood to oblige. Remember the 2005 Ashes? He clearly made an error by attempting to increase the over rate last night in Nagpur when he should have been using his best bowlers at a point in the match where the test could be won. Alan Border was dumbstruck and many former players have shaken their heads in amazement that he seemed more interested in avoiding a one match ban than winning the test. The country awaits Ponting’s response. The Australian November 10, 2008 Although there were words of praise for the debutant spinner Jason Krejza who wove magic(although costly) and almost spun the whole Indian side in the first innings of the fourth test at Nagpur. There were praises for the selectors and Ricky Ponting for bringing him at the right time, but the stones kept pelting on the rest of bowling attack. Here is an...

Shoot the crow

The shoot is going on and so is the crow. So what do you infer from this line ? Its simple. A bunch of people with money and TRP's on their mind have paid some crows, do do what they are best at. I am talking of the news channels that peep into the whole world every time and every second and the so called trusted news cannot be trusted anymore. One of my friends argued over a point that Hindi news channels are good and comprehensive. My response, What Bull shit. My voice was dwarfed by 6 more people who spoke together with me. We all said that the way they sensationalize the news makes it seem like crap. They are sellign news like masala dosa on the streets. He unabashedly said that there is not enough news so they have to create it. I agreed with him, but there is no reason to fake. You can repeat the news too. India TV keeps on playing old repeat telecasts of Great Indian Laughter challenge and other comedy shows. Is this news ?? A created one ??? This is bloody crap. And oh, th...
