Why we FAIL when it MATTERS the MOST?

Don't be afraid to click on the picture above :P We give many exams, interviews, public speeches yet when these matter the most for us, we somehow manage to underperform or even at times perform miserably.  In this blog post I will talk about why people fail and how you can avoid the trap of failure. I am sure you would’ve read articles on “success tips” and seen many motivational talks on succeeding; I can assure you I won’t be repeating the same. There are three aspects that I’ve come across that make us fail - 1) The high stakes game, 2) “Good Wishes” from friends and family, and finally 3) This is my “dream”. The high stakes game I will tell you a story about my friend with a “HIGH IQ” who failed miserably in the CAT exam. CAT is an important exam taken by many students every year to get into top Indian B-schools. My friend did all the right things yet could not make it. Divorce by PowerPoint

Is PowerPoint the greatest thing given by a tech company to managers or the worst? I would not try to bias your thoughts since I am in a similar field but this story of Divorce, Management Consulting and PowerPoint has a lot to stay about PowerPoint-ization of life. Her husband works at one of the big four management consulting firms. Long work hours were definitely a straining point but things became worse at their daughter Priyanka's second birthday. She says, "It was our daughter Priyanka’s second birthday. We had arranged for a small celebration at our place. In the middle of the celebration, Abhishek opened his laptop and started with a 20 minute presentation that he had prepared on Pri...

NIT Suicide: Preventive measures

The NIT suicide case is an incident that reminds us of the dragon hidden in the invisible poison of stress. Stress due to any wanted or unwanted activity can result in consequences, either positive or negative. Ragging is an unwanted harmful activity that can be fatal to the mental makeup of an individual. In such circumstances the individual subject to it may take extreme measures as in Satyendra’s case. Environmental factors cannot be avoided. Stress is just like a road accident. Most of the times, you might not be at fault but still you have to bear the consequences. To avoid them, you adopt safer driving. The same is the case with stress. Asking yourself the question “how big is the problem, how insignificant is it as compared to me, my life” can be the major difference between overcoming stress and being overpowered by it. I recently did a project with my team on “Health Hazards of stress and its effect on productivity”. Based on our questionnaire, survey and analysis we came up...
