The perils of being a famous Entrepreneur!

Entrepreneurs spend so much time getting more visibility for their idea that there is tendency for them to loose focus from their long term vision.

Anna Hazare movement's ineffective social presence

The great Indian social media movement, the modern Gandhi, and the greatest Indian anti-corruption movement faded away into oblivion. Sad. Where did Anna Hazare disappear? Technology is integrated and interacts with media. One of the prime reasons for the first phase of Anna Hazare movement was social media . Despite that it was ignored by Team Anna in maintaining constant buzz with the youth and adult population that use social media. The pen is still mightier than the sword, but the slates have changed. It is as if the pen is no longer being used to express on the slate of social media. The diminishing nature of leadership and strategic failure in maintaining a connect with the general population has eventually led to perceptions of defeatism about Team Anna. A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on. Winston Churchill Social media presents an opportunity to make truth run at the same pace as a lie. This is precise...

Facebook Pages - Tips to make it an Effective Marketing platform

Facebook pages offers an effective tool for brands to connect with their consumers on a medium they use the most. But are they using it properly ? Facebook as a media offers marketers a medium to reach their audience where they spend most of their time. It is a useful way for information dissemination and a source for customer intelligence gathering. After reviewing Facebook and research on virtual communities, I have come up with 5 tips that make Facebook pages successful. 1. Engaging users on Facebook page : Marketers did a lot of hard work to increase the fanbase of Facebook pages. Now that they've reached a landmark and are striving hard to add more fans, its time to engage the users. The bottom line of this tip is to keep your facebook page user committed to the page.Engaging your page through contests and games can make your page stand out among other pages. After all going away from your page to a competitor's Facebook page is just a click away. 2. Adding value to th...

Some titles make you think twice

The creative department at some media agencies needs change. From being creative, they've become re-creative. They re-create a story in the hopes of attracting more people. Like this one. For the first time, malaria 'caught in the act' - ( Link ) Caught in the act? WTF was malaria trying to do? If you read the story and know malaria well, you might understand better. Google shuffle: why Eric Schmidt had to be pushed from the top ( Link ) Ok! I understand the sentiment of many Google fans, but why do you need to push Eric Schmidt from the top when he was peacefully replaced by Larry Page. Without offending anybody, had Schmidt's mom not known about the replacement, she might have suffered a heart attack after reading this. I appreciate the intent of yellow journalism but I certainly question a pink elephant caught in the act while trying to eat a purple tomato. WTF are they trying to do?

Idea behind the name

If you don't know, this blog was earlier called speak india. (url: speakindiablog.blogspot.com ). Now you would find it redirected towards where you(we) currently are i.e. ( domainofhope.com ). Yup the word is HOPE! As to why I renamed it, Seth Godin explains it in a better way. He says, "Fear mongering is a lousy profession, one that ought to be regulated, if not banned. I'm more in favor of hope mongering . 2010 is the year that the world will change. In fact, every year is that year, but this is the only time we'll get to change the world this time." Fear of failure, fear of fall or simply fear (terror) is something we are used to and I feel we've had an overdose of it. (Courtesy : Hysterical Media). Just to add to what Seth says, following the demand-supply relationship, I don't think there exists any demand for fear, rather there is an excessive supply. So if you want to be a successful person/enterprise, give something in demand. Fulfill a nee...

Aakriti Bhatia and misplaced anger

The case of Aakriti Bhatia, a class 12th student who died after an asthma attack has turned into probably the most important discussion. Its sad that Aakriti died unexpectedly in an untimely death but, I believe now emotions have gone out of control. The principal of the school (Mordern School, Vasant Vihar) Goldie Malhotra is beign asked to resign. Why ? Because a girl died. Now c'mmon, its a rare incidence and what role has Goldie to play in a case of rare natural death. Emotions can close the windows of mind, but surprisingly many parents coming out and doing hoo hallah is no way. Parents are demanding action against Goldie for alleged negligence. How can Goldie neglect her or how can he not. If a person suffers a heart attack, a medical room in school (Which my school had) help it. The whole story is still under the veil. Things such as, did her inhaler not work, or did she forget it at home, or the medical facility at school not have it can throw more light. Here I blame the...

Blog Camp 2 @ Delhi - Experience

The Blog camp-2 organized by IBNMS was an enriching experience that gave me new thoughts to ponder over. I was at the venue at about 11:00 AM , just in time before the session on ' Using new media for maximizing brand visibility: case studies ' by Meena began. Meena who is Head External Communications, HCL Technologies explained how she started the 'employee first customer second campaign' that spread through slide share presentation and other relatively free social media and gained popularity. This session, I felt did not get the 'WOW' factor, which was there in the next session by Mr Madhavan (Associate Editor, Hindustan Times). His topic of discussion was ' What blogs mean to mainstream media, and what mainstream media means to blogs ' where he mentioned some very useful points about blogging and traditional media, although I have my reservations on a few things he said. The Q and A, which followed after his comprehensive session was also interesti...

MMS and Media

Today the front page of Hindustan Times carried a news item of another MMS case in Noida that came into the limelight after an email was leaked. The question I'd like to ask is that extensive publicity of such stories is doing good or bad to the society and to the victims of such cases. The matter is worse on TV. Channels fighting for TRPs and sponsors frequently play such blurred clips in the name of news. It can be argued that such highlighting will prevent such acts from happening but what about the victims? But lets also remember the victim is a victim of his/her own crime. The video was shot with consent of the victim and not forcibly done. DEV.D shows an instance where the father of girl involved in an MMS committed suicide. In a recent real incident a 16 year old Mangalore ram sene riot victim took her life after her clip was aired on practically every national news channel. There is a clear reason to be more sensitive to the victims of such cases, where revealing the ident...

Is Mint in trouble ?

Is HT Mint in trouble ? Firstly it was the pressure on news media by recession, which resulted in some ambitious projects being halted. What followed was a controversy caused by an article " letter to PM " published in mint, that resulted in the expulsion of Raju Narisetti as the editor in chief. The latest blow comes from Vir Sanghvi, who criticizes HT Mint of being hypocrites. He writes in his blog So why am I stopping the column? It's quite simple. I will not write for a publication that censors its columnists and denies them the right to free speech while writing long, impassioned pieces about the freedom to criticize others from the Prime Minister downwards. All of us exhibit double standards to some degree. But Mint's hypocrisy takes my breath away. Read Meanwhile Monika Halan , the former editor of outlook money resigned because of the intrusion of management into the edit section and her unhappiness over the awards. Looking at the disappointment of many jour...

Simi Garewal's slip of tongue

There are times when your observation ( predication ) goes thoroughly wrong and is the cause for a major public embarrassment. I have been through such situations so many times that the word "embarrassment" does not embarrass me any more. But if you multiply an embarrassment by a million, there are chances that your stay at the embarrassment villa might be longer. Simi Garewal is such a lady whose stay at the E-Villa has been long, infact much longer than I expected. I was watching the debate on NDTV hosted by an already unpopular journalist when she uttered her comments about the Pakistani flags, which "She" could see in a slum from a suburban restaurant. In reality those were not flags of Pakistan. Oops! what a Blunder and that too on National TV (When the world is watching you). There was instant reaction on that show too, when a person actually rushed towards her to punch her face. At that point I knew this would be in the news tomorrow. But the story has cont...
