Toyota's Recall and Crisis Management: 2010 in Social Media

The beginning of the recall : In the August of 2009 the car with Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor, 45, his wife, their daughter and Saylor's brother-in-law sped to over 120 mph. They were killed as their Lexus struck a sport utility vehicle and subsequently burst into flames after launching off an embankment. Investigation determined that a wrong-size floor mat trapped the accelerator and caused the crash. Toyota recalled millions of cars to replace the faulty floor mats, which caused the accelerator to jam. On 20th Dec, Toyota agreed to pay a record fine in the US of $32.4m (£20.8m) over its handling of millions of car recalls. This after they agreed to pay $16.4m penalty in April. Toyota has also paid $10m (£6.5m) to the family of Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor. There is heightened awareness among people about Toyota cars. This heightened awareness means that any negative publicity can do a lot of damage. Although known for its supreme operational capabilitie...

Maruti Ritz Review : Is Maruti Ritz another A-star ? Know more about Maruti Ritz

Maruti Ritz launch, features, price, pros and cons Maruti has come out with another premium hatchback car, Ritz. It has been launched in direct competition with Swift. Ritz and swift are all set to compete with Hyundai Getz, Skoda Fabia, UVA and i20. Pros of Maruti Ritz The Ritz is a model between A-star and swift and has been launched in direct competition with swift. Swift has about 75% market share, which is very high in this segment. Ritz and Swift, together may even manage to get an even greater share for Maruti. It also adds an option for buyers in the 4+ lakhs segment. The mileage, going by the initial reports and test conditions is very good. The fact that it has been launched in 5 models including 2 diesel ones gives the buyer an option to go for a diesel car in the B+ segment. The increasing congestion in urban areas has increased the demand in the B+ segment. So it should definately give a boost to the sales. Being a Maruti car, the service shouldn't be much of a problem...

Lets face it - Traffic worsens, no other choice left

I met my worst driving nightmare yesterday. Driving blues had become commonplace because of unplanned and shoddy execution of projects, the construction nightmare on Delhi roads gave me the coma effect yesterday. All I could see was a mile long array of cars and buses in the front and the view was same through the rear view mirror. The only good thing I had unknowingly done was taken my Maruti 800 buggy rather than its longer cousin. Although it was good to have taken a bike version of car, I could only pray to prevent it from overheating. In the end, the turtles defeated my car. Looking back at the chain of events yesterday I feel such nightmarish clogging of city roads is just an indication of how overburdened our "assets" have become. 3 years back speed checking cars of Delhi Police had some work but now I believe they are no longer needed and it is quite visible from their presence(the lack of it). The upcoming elections and the rallies will only further add to the perils...

Web 3.0 and Tata Nano

web 2.0 to 3.0 might have just taken place with many companies using the free and effective medium of web to promote their product globally. Banner ads, TV ads and couple of other sources including radio might give an edge but a stiffer competition to these rather costly sources comes from the free media of web. The recent Tata Nano web site is such an example where the team of Tata Nano will connect through the interactive 2 way media of social networking. According to wikipedia of web 2.0 Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities, hosted services, and applications; such as social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. I'd say the third generation of web has just arrived where corporates are spreading their brand through practically free media of web 2.0. Tata Nano updates through orkut, facebook or email is an indicator of how an iconic product already popular because of its uniqueness can turn into a revol...

CNG tribe

The CNG autos did a lot good for the people of Delhi and this effort by the government has been a commendable one. It did reduce a lot of pollution and the air has become less polluted than it was a few years back. The sight of fumes coming out of an auto is a rarity now. Although it is common in goods tempos, norms for them too need to be regulated. The mad rush to buy vehicles continued thanks to the new jobs created due to the BPO industry. Salaries increased and so did the standard of living. I have nothing against it but yes as it did deteriorate and we have no right to complaibnt about it since we are partly responsible for it. But looking at the auto rickshaw, the have gone through a lot because of the impositions on them by the government. Yes, the cheap gas also gave them better margins. Long queues at CNG stations and waiting of almost 3 hours at CNG station was there, but the tribe went through all that to make the metropolis better. The yellow and green brand of this trib...

Toyota to launch low cost car

Toyota is planning to launch a car in the $5000 range to capture the emerging low cost segment of automobiles in India. Tata's who were the progenitors of low cost economical cars have been followed by many others and Toyota is the latest edition. The advantage of having a low cost car is that it consumes less fuel and is more eco-friendly as compared to the fuel thirsty SUV's. To save the environment we will need low cost cars, who are well in synergy with the environment. Toyota, the world's largest automobile maker has yet to conquer the Indian front. The japanese firm is now trying hard and its engineers are trying to keep to the global brand alive as well as reduce the cost of car. It will be hard for Toyota to make a low cost car since with a global brand like toyota, customers have certain expectations, but the features need to be minimal to reduce costs. But looking at the history of toyota, I am quite confident that they will come out with an excellent and innovativ...
