Rann controversy

Ram Gopal Varma is again on the controversy lane, Film street, India. This time it is the parody of the national anthem that hasn't been taken too kindly by people of India. Sunil and Hemant say "I strongly feel that nobody should use our national anthem for their personal gains." Now putting the controversy aside, I'd like to ask that why small issues in this country are given so much importance than core issues. I'm highly disappointed by the voter turn out this time. People don't have time to vote but have time point fingers. Looking at Aravalli Hills and the irreversible ecological damage that has been caused, I feel cheated. What is the use of having an anthem or a flag, when we don't respect the land they are made for. Is this what was once used to be sone ki chidiya? Moreover there is nothing in the song that insults the country. It is blatant truth and we have to accept it. Its only parties with political motives that are creating chaos and dram...

Changing trend of Indian Movies

Although Dilli-6 may have not got the box office collections or the critics acclaim, the changing trend of the "message" in the current breed of Indian movies is clearly visible. The concept of poor boy rich girl has been long blabbered in the Hindi cinema, and finally after the slamming by audiences of such movies, a new trend of giving a more realistic message is emerging. Slumdog millionaire was criticized for being a westerner's view of poverty in India, the Indian view of problems (not alone poverty) have been better but with a poor execution. The origin of communal riots showed in Dilli-6 and the focus on the roots was particularly good, but over dramatization and a slow story (very slow) killed the movie. Movies should be like whirlpool- even after you watch the movie it should still suck you in, a feature found in Ghajini . Another movie, which caught my attention was Aloo Chaat starring Aftab Sivdasani, Kulbhushan Kharbandha and Aamna Shariff. The movie talks a...

Marry a katrina look alike

If you are not happy with the marriage proposals you've been getting till now, register on Bharata Matrimony and find a Katrina/Bipasha/Kareena and (many more ) look alike. Bharat Matrimony has started a facial recognition feature, which shows profiles matching your favourite celebrity. This is a very innovative feature introduced by the matrimonial website but the implications could have both positive and negative effects. Prospective models can put their pics on the matrimony website and get calls from producers. On the other hand if celebrity gets in news for wrong reasons, it could harm the repute of the lookalikes since they've been tagged. But if you pride yourself being called a John or Shahid or a katrina or any other celeb, it could be a good ego boost. The reactions could be many. Check out the facial search feature. Try reading Amit's view on this feature. I'd also like to know your view about this feature.

If Slumdog...

Slamming Slumdog Millionaire . Recently I've managed to read many rantings about Slumdog Millionaire, one came from Dharavi, another from Patna, a strange one from the desk of an MBA seller , and surprising ones from BIG A's and B's. But I'm just waiting for that one moment when it bags the Oscars, and all these incapable people will be Big zeroed by Danny and others. A hillarious article I read today was that Slumdog Millionaire was to be directed by Sanjay Gupta-That Sanjay Dutt Bhai Bug. If there is an iota of truth in this story then thank god he missed by a whisker. But the good thing in the Bhai Banda was that he recognized that if he would have made the movie it wouldn't have got the international recognition and the awards. Now that is atleast one down to earth person. And yes there is also a flop director who has opened up school of entertainment as he had to find an alternative career. He has not come out in open since after being a yuvraaj of crappy ci...

Shahrukh Khan on Twitter

Shahrukh khan has joined the twitter tribe and from his profile it seems to be a publicity stunt for Billu Barber . Whether its real or fake is for you to guess. My take : It is real and temporary. (for the promotion of Billu Barber) Click here to visit SRK's twitter profile. Thanks Vulturo for breaking the news.

Billu Barber - Another copy paste

"Another Shahrukh khan movie " would be the reaction of people when they see the trailers of Billu Barber. All the promotional songs of the movie feature Shahrukh dancing around with girls half his age taller than him but the true(hidden) story is that Billu Barber features Irfan Khan in lead role. The film stars Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta in the lead roles, and Shahrukh Khan in a supporting role of a movie star. The film also features Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani in supporting roles with guest appearances by actresses Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra. The film is a remake of the hugely successful Malayalam Indian film Kadha Parayumbol. Is Bollywood short of talent or is the south Indian film industry much better ? Ghajini was the previous cut-copy-edit-paste.This method seems to be a quick way of producing movies without much input creatively. What makes it a reject film ? Initially, these roles were offered to Akshay Kumar and Tabu. However, Kumar didn...

Slumdog is on the Oscar list

The top categories of Oscars have got two Slumdog Millionaire nominations , one for best picture and the other for best director, making it a special achievement in terms of Indian Achievement in Oscars. The fact that A R Rahman is nominated in 3 categories out of 10 Slumdog Millionaire nominations makes it even more special. We've had a lot of talk about the Oscars after Lagaan managed to make the cut to the nomination stage for the best foreign film category. Apart from that the more recent quarrel between "Munnbhai-Gandhigiri" and Rang De Basanti over which goes to the oscars made the academy awards an even more talked about event. Bollywood and Oscars share the same relation, which Tollywood or Bhojpuri cinema shares with Bollywood. A lot of wannabes and a little bit of genuine talent gets added, but keeps the whole equation more or less similar. A billion plus population but so less on talent that we need foreigners to hold our fingers to take up to the big stage in...

Where is Britney ?

Another Jabber Britney Spears, the girl I had a crush on as a teen is in the Indian news media for being omnipresent. But hey where is she ? And what do you expect for an answer. Maybe she is dating another side dancer, or may be her school friend or maybe ... could be anybody... A playboy from pakistan... Lots of speculations Hmm... But the lamest of all answers was that she was recently in India (when actually she was not). When an international celebrity goes missing, where could he/she be ? On a religious trip for mental peace to India. The Indian media makes a big deal when a Hollywood star or a pop star comes to India. whats so big in that ? Can't they come without all the hype. Some written off celeb comes to India and the media swarms him as if George Bush has arrived. Will they bless us all by coming to India ? Some hangovers seem to stay forever with a few journalists hoping to make a name by cooking birbal ki khichardi with extra salt. Ok! lets move ahead with another m...

Jiah Khan leads, Asin trails

This is not my personal opinion, it is the voice of Google sultanate. Jiah Khan, despite being over powered by the strategies of Aamir Khan and Asin's dominance in the promotion of Ghajini, she has come over and above Ghajini and its "Star Power" to win the vote of the internet user. In my opinion, the vote swung in favour of Jiah, more because of her hot maxim photo shoot (see below) rather than the mound of star power and deliberate drowning. But it could be the other way also. The harder you throw a ball, the more it bounces back, newton's third law. That could be the case also. What matters is popularity. I guess the producers should give a serious thought to these results as they could be useful for casting in future. Another interpretation of these stats can be on a curiosity index. People want to know more about Jiah Khan and her role in Ghajini since she has been kept under the wraps, they simply want to see more of her. It is next to impossible to nail down ...

Ghajini - earns 32 crore on first day

You've heard it right. Ghajini, the copy of a Tamil movie, or a remix of a Tamil movie has been branded and is now selling like hot cakes with free gold biscuits. Ghajini earned Rs 32 crore on the first day at Box Office. Singh is Kinng lost to it by a mile and if you compare the King Shahrukh's movie Rab ne Bana Di Jodi, you'll see an old man running in a 100 meter race who has just managed to run the first 10 meters. Like the USAIN BOLT of Box office collections with Ghajini, Aamir Khan has proved that he is the best atleast for now, whether it is quality cinema (Taare Zameen Par) or Masala Vada type cinema like Ghajini. The thing, I want to discuss here is that 32 crores were actually spent by the Indian public on one day. Two weeks ago, they spent 10 crores on the first day of Rab ne Bana Di Jodi. That becomes 42 crores in 2 days, which is 21 crores per day. Now if three shows are running per day, this comes out to be 7 crores per show and roughly 2.33 crores per hour f...

Aamir Khan's tattoo trouble

It is not the first time this has happened, but Aamir khan has got into a tattoo trouble. There was a tattoo of a phone number on his body and while the promos of Ghajini went on air, the crazy fans of Aamir, noted down the number and started calling it. The result was that Aamir's doctor became the first target of his fans. Now it is film distributor Trilochan Singh. His number too has been flashed and he is getting crazy calls. It is really surprising to see that when there are crores being spent on the movie and the world goes gaga about his 8 packs, the producers did not buy 2 numbers to flash it. What say! Is this an after effect of recession ? I hope other filmakers learn a lesson from this. Apparently Trilochan Singh has filed a lawsuit demanding Rs 50 Lakh as damages. Now this will hurt. Recession won't help it either. Looking at it the other way, Trilochan could have done all this as a publicity stunt to get into limelight. You can never say anything about the Indian F...

Desperation speaks

An actress who does not have a god father, is not a beauty contest winner, nor has plum role is a beauty in desperation. And what does she decide to do. Go nude. I don't know the name of the princess in need, but she was featured on BaKwaas Balwaan TV . I'm sure BOSS would be more than happy to see her, but I don't really think, the censor board is going to help the producer. When they can chop of the word condom from Hello after going gaga about it on TV, chopping or ripping the scene apart wouldn't be tough. There is no shortage of perverts in the film industry. As far as the beauty in need is concerned, Desperation has many speakers. From MTV to blogs. Can't really say, whether it's a publicity stunt to call in some directors (predators looking to do a favour).

Shoot the crow

The shoot is going on and so is the crow. So what do you infer from this line ? Its simple. A bunch of people with money and TRP's on their mind have paid some crows, do do what they are best at. I am talking of the news channels that peep into the whole world every time and every second and the so called trusted news cannot be trusted anymore. One of my friends argued over a point that Hindi news channels are good and comprehensive. My response, What Bull shit. My voice was dwarfed by 6 more people who spoke together with me. We all said that the way they sensationalize the news makes it seem like crap. They are sellign news like masala dosa on the streets. He unabashedly said that there is not enough news so they have to create it. I agreed with him, but there is no reason to fake. You can repeat the news too. India TV keeps on playing old repeat telecasts of Great Indian Laughter challenge and other comedy shows. Is this news ?? A created one ??? This is bloody crap. And oh, th...

The Reality Package

Reality TV has become a phenomena amongst Indian viewers. There are different kinds of reality shows propping and the trend continues. The best thing in all this is the way it has been processed and packaged, just fit for the consumer, the viewer. So what is it that manages to catch so many eye balls, and creates an illusion of candid reality. The race for higher T.R.P's has converged the content of most of the reality shows on a single point. The concepts may be different, but idea of attracting audience, the same. The directors and creative heads of these shows are now taking bolder steps to ensure the T.R.P. success of their show. Under the magnifying glass, you can easily see the prefabricated cloth, the so called concept of these shows. The candid confession As one may call it, the confessions of an angry tiger, the candid confession is the part of reality show that enthralls us all. In an music reality show, a candidate might say, "I'll show Anu, the power of my sin...

Kabhi Kabhi : Old vs New

Since few days the song " Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai " ( कभी कभी मेरे दिल में ख्याल आता है...) was playing in my head and finally I got some time to log on to youtube and listen to the song. what an awesome song, one of my favourites. And when I searched for Kabhi Kabhi I found out the recent Kabh Kabhi Aditi Zindagi mein... (Jaane Tu Ya jaane Na) and what a contrasting difference. Both are good but nothing as compared to the original one. Another shocker was Nelly Furtardo singing Kabhi Kabhi, but a fabulous effort.I would've loved had she sung the whole song. The Bally Sagoo remix was also good, but messed up. I've embedded a few of them below.

Indian Idol 4

The most glamorous talent hunt show is here again, after a long break, back to what it is best at; the clash of the judges. The talent hunt has been more popular for the clash of the judges (Javed Akhtar ji and Anu Malik), it maybe a selling tactic, but surely works. I have nothing against it, except for the way the winner is selected. There should be a more judicious way of finding out the winner, since the winners of Indian Idol 2 and 3 both were less deserving ones. The good thing this year is that the contestants of previous year are anchoring the show. Chang is playing the perfect host. Deepali and others are also doing a great job. The revelation is Monali , with her two hit songs she sung this year for Race. Keeping looking for for more on the official website of Indian Idol .

The Last Lear

The Last Lear has been a movie leaps ahead of its time, in terms of contemporary Indian Cinema. I was awestruck by the finesse in the movie in terms of the performance of actors and almost everybody has managed to deliver a power-packed performance. Beginning with the entry of shabnam, a model turned actress, played by preity Zinta, to the director, played by Arjun Rampal, everybody was living their role. The central character of the story, Harish a theatre actor, portrayed by the actor of the millennium ( Amitabh Bachchan)is what the story rests on. The character of Harish has been beautifully sketched, which helps the mega star deliver his best performance in terms of intellectual cinema till date. The negative part of the story is the blurred character sketches of Arjun Rampal and Preity Zinta. Their characters are defined to a large extent but overall there is blur which can be seen in their character sketches. The movie also looses pace in between. Overall, The Lat Lear is a bril...

Phoonk : Ramus tryst with horror

Ram Gopal Varma and Phoonk are out marketing their film never heard before. Phoonk is out with a challenge . Watch it alone in a theatre and take home 5 lakh ruppees. It does not seem as easy as it may sound to you. RGV camp is claiming it to be the scariest movie ever to hit the Indian cinemas. This kind of marketing seems new, something Shahrukh and Red Chillies entertainment can look into. To market the movie Ram Gopal has also used his blog. Ramu's experience with supernatural He says that once on he was on a flight with shiamak dawar. Shiamak and Ramu had never met or worked before except at a party where they had met. While talking Shiamak suddenly asked, "Is your father dead ?". He was taken aback. He said "ya". Shiamak replied saying that Ramu's father was there with them and was little concerned about Ramu. Lets see what is Shiamak's take on this story. I can only say one thing to him, "Man! you are so scary". You scared Ramu. There ...
