Selfie at funeral - Being Human or being inappropriate?

Barack Obama's selfie at Nelson Mandela's memorial caught on camera may have hit his image in a wrong way, especially when in politics image is the king . While there are blogs dedicated to shame people who indulge in selfies at funerals, this  over the top negative reaction towards such selfies is pushing it a bit too far.

Gaddafi's last moment and the Truth

The pictures of the blood laden motionless body of Muammar Gaddafi are doing rounds of internet with popular portals like MSN, Yahoo, Rediff, BBC, CNN, NYT carrying it on their front pages like a trophy they had just won. Like the messiahs of truth, they are trying to show to the world, "What were the last moments of Gaddafi?" - Don't Shoot, Don't Shoot . People (including me) are watching this chapter in history with wide open eyes to see the naked dance of power - Power in its most vicious form. Is this the truth? Did Gaddafi have to be killed if he cried - Don't Shoot, Don't Shoot. Wasn't that itself a victory for a civilized state? The sad part is that the so called "saviors of the world" like United States that wish to democratize this world assisted the perpetrators in this barbaric act. The irony is that their present leader is a Nobel peace prize winner. Is it civilized to kill a powerless person? Is it civilized to take off his clo...

Barack Obama: Leader loosing the human touch?

Wall street journal's Peggy Noonan made a big statement about the messiah of hope . It is that nobody loves Obama. This is amazing because every president has people who love him, who feel deep personal affection or connection, who have a stubborn, even beautiful refusal to let what they know are just criticisms affect their feelings of regard. At the height of Bill Clinton's troubles there were always people who'd say, "Look, I love the guy." They'd often be smiling—a wry smile, a shrugging smile. Nobody smiles when they talk about Mr. Obama. There were people who loved George W. Bush when he was at his most unpopular, and they meant it and would say it. But people aren't that way about Mr. Obama. He has supporters and bundlers and contributors, he has voters, he may win. But his support is grim support. And surely this has implications. Although I really doubt the concreteness of this claim it has a lesson for leaders. The human touch, the fact tha...

There is just one life

I was having a casual chat with a friend and talking about living with uncertainty . His instant reaction : I hate to live in uncertainty . (Now let me tell you he is impulsive) And yes we all like to live a comfortable, peaceful and certain life. In short we want a risk free life.

Obama and Nobel peace prize

Obama for peace! A hope for peace, a new dimension. There is a lot of debate going on whether he has done enough to deserve it or can he work for it. I won't be talking about whether he is the right one or not for the prize but lets look at it from how is it going to influence him. Maybe the man for hope will choose a path of peace. The prize definitely has increased the expectations of the world (atleast mine). Obama's policy initiatives, especially foreign policies can have more of a peaceful nature than his predecessor. One negative aspect could be that Obama's influence and popularity could reduce if robust measures take the place of popular measures. On the positive side, the expectations from Barack Obama would become higher and the positive effect would be that the world's most powerful man would force himself to act towards peace. I agree that it has been more of speeches till now, but that is what is needed. Without intitating dialogue how can you plan in ...

Obama - The story teller of Change

I saw the speech of Barack Obama in cairo last evening and looking at him closely you realize how he built up and narrated the normally boring political speeches. The art of narration gives him the unique capability to build a whirlpool that sucks you into what he is saying. The success of a speech lies in the fact that people get over it and start thinking about what is next. Had the speech been unsuccessful a significant debate would have begun over the semantics and policies spoken about in the speech. The fact that suggests the speech struck the right chord was when public reactions asked for action. That means the talk was a success. People started looking beyond the speech. After all action does not rest in Obama's hand alone but he has initiated the process. The articulate story teller finally ends up with a blunt message . No half talk, no two facets, only one coherent message. PS: Read the entire transcript here .

Obama Muslim Nation

Barack Hussein Obama's hand of friendship to the Muslim world marks a beginning of a phase were talks holds priority and "bloody messages" take back seat. Recent articles on Obama's visit to Saudi Arabia and its reactions by al Qaida's leadership is an indicator of how the pill of peace can uproot terror. The change Obama talked about is now for all to see. The economic recession and the need for security and safety will prompt the world of today to go for peace and not violence. The discontent because of unemployment and the great economic depression of the 1930's lead to a few leaders misguiding their countries to war. The world stands on similar crossroads today. The ray of hope rests with the world's most powerful country and it is the duty of others to stand as pillars of support and support the endeavor to bring peace by methods of peace and non-violence to stop the ongoing fire that threatens to engulf the world. Religion has divided us and now is t...

Big Money, big lesson

Today might go down in history as a day when big big money was spent on a select few while others were trying to live on 100($14.63) yuan a week . Freddie and KP managed to fetch $1.55 million each for 3 weeks of work. Recession, salary cuts, millions of job losses,US stimulus package debate...Err Is this true ??? But the bigger set back was for the pup(Michael Clarke). He was reserved for a base price of $1 million, which Mr IPL (IPL chief commissioner-Lalit Modi) said nobody was willing to offer . So to avoid humiliation pup (future Australian captain) decided to rest, atleast for the media. Now thats what I call a hay day layoff and a high ego. Anyways unemployed youth like me are more than happy to write about such tea time gossip. The western world meanwhile was bickering about the bail out stimulus package when Michael Phelps the marijuana swimmer got kellogged. IPL was giving money and Olympic champ was to have none of it. Kelloggs said that it would not renew the contract with...

Valentine's day gossip

With the valentines day approaching the thought - political maniacs going in the streets and beating couples makes me petrified of the fact that if I am spotted with a girl on the V-day, I might just be beaten black and blue and it might become my D-day. And the first timers trying their hand at dating might just stay at home with their family- poor virgins. There is one MP who has given a positive response. Maybe the fact that he has daughters makes his softer on the radical agenda or maybe his female fans. A female fan recently said to him “I love you, Laluji. You have a unique style. I would like to meet you somewhere,”. SOMEWHERE!!!-But where?? Hmmm... Now thats what I call an astute politician. Another lover who came out in the open was the male muscle of Dostana-John. John Abraham went on record and said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the sexiest woman by eons and light years and he would love her to death. I wonder what poor Robert might be thinking. It's sometimes best no...

Orchestrated drama ?

The Lok Sabha polls are around the corner and the BJP camp has begun aggressive campaigning to woo the voters. At such a time out of no where comes a fanatical organization and thrashes up innocent people in Mangalore creating a national outcry and rage. In the name of Lord Ram, a group associated to BJP went ahead as the moral police and bashed up people partying in a pub in broad daylight. BJP goes ahead and disowns the sena. Now the swiftness through which the job has been done makes me feel that something is not as white-Black in the BJP camp. Was this drama orchestrated to show a non-fanatic side of BJP or was this a move gone horribly wrong. Starting early can have its positives and the negatives and with BJP in spotlight over this issue can make it a champion or immature move. Looking at the downside it might strengthen nations view of a fanatic-nationalistic-violent party and as seen in the assembly elections incumbency and development might again be the high tide in an already...

Barack Obama's fitness chapter

Barack Obama is a classic example of a "good" politician and there are many things our Indian counterparts can learn from him. I wouldn't be going into the moral aspects. I was just surfing the internet when I found out a video of Barack Obama surfing with his family. The man is fit, healthy and has a fab body. He does not look like a muscle machine nor is he an over weight pig. The perfect person for the most stressful job in the world. A healthy mind in a healthy body is an adage our esteemed super heroes of Lok Sabha can learn from. The day after he won the presidential elections of 2008, he was back at the gym, getting in shape to reshape the world.
