5 Reasons why banning opinion polls is justified

Opinion poll is a survey of public opinion from a particular sample. It is usually designed to represent the opinions of a population by asking a set of questions and then extrapolating generalities. While it sounds pretty harmless, the decision of the Congress party to back Election Commission's views on restricting publication and dissemination of opinion polls during elections has come under severe criticism. The argument  in favour of opinion polls is that they are a representation of the freedom of speech. But, presently the  manner in which they are being conducted and publicized raises some alarming questions on their validity and impact.

BJP does it again, but how ?

I had little time to take a view of the election campaigning process that took place in the state elections, the results of which gave BJP another Jhatka. Looking and analyzing the results and results alone, it wouldn’t be hard for anyone to say that second innings for congress has just got going. The glaring thing about BJP is the big rupture in the party. The word missing from the party character is “Integrated”. As a marketer, if I am not clear with my product or an idea I’m trying to sell, how would I convince others. It is as simple as that. But to convince yourself and that too when you have a 100 heads (just a number, no reference) is tough. There is still going to be that unhappy head, which would give you a big time headache. And then there are those tumors and genetic defects. Now the meaning of this post can slip. I’ll keep it simple – It is not possible to satisfy everybody at the same time. And not to say that winning parties don’t have conflict of ideas. When there are t...

Double strike

These days are probably the best for Sonia Gandhi and her family. The landslide victory of the congress in the Lok Sabha Polls of 2009 and the death of Vellupillai Prabhakaran, LTTE chief, the plotter of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, bring double joy along with winds of hope. A stable government at center paved the way for a sky rocketing stock market, a feature common since 1984. Another common feature of the congress government has been the long-term decline of stock market. The BJP victory in 1999 was followed by a 13% decline in the market, but rose in long term. A further introspection into the results of this election makes me believe that the opposition i.e. BJP will have to work very hard to come back to power. The congress despite a clear mismanagement of India’s security made it through. The Indian voter has gone for the secular ploy and given the congress another chance. Even after 26th November attacks on Mumbai, controlling the CBI for its own purposes and Sky-high food pr...

Chappal - Joota election

An unsettling shoe just rattled the hopes of two congress MPs in Delhi, and now a war of words has begun between Congress and BJP . Narendra Modi called congress a "Budhiya", which was responded by "Gudhiya" by Priyanka, but now its just stooped below the standard of what a national party must be doing. The recent low in the war of words (WOW) comes from AICC general secretary, B Hariprasad. He says "The man who made the statement on the old age of the Congress party must implement his statement on his own political party. First he should dump Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the oldest man who is in hurry to become Prime Minister L K Advani in the Arabian sea," Woah! The reader's reactions to this comment have been in favour of BJP rather than congress. This comes after the four pronged attack by congress on BJP's PM candidate, Mr L K Advani. Rahul,Priyanka and Sonia Gandhi lashed out at Mr Advani and surprisingly Dr Manmohan Sigh also came prepared ...

Bongress

I was discussing this with a friend of mine today and fortunately, in my online world I came across this wonderful image of the cross breed of Lion and Tiger called Liger. (This is the largest Ligress in the world) With this idea, what if we crossbreed our political parties say BJP + Congress ? Bongress Bongress might just come up with a bang. The cooperate to Dominate (c2d) strategy! If they don't somebody else might just eat the pie.
