Offensive Harry

The recent blooper from a hysteric world comes from none other than Prince Harry. Sometimes the dead and buried stories creep up from nowhere and cause embarrassment. All I can say is that the hard drives containing archives are really of a very good quality. boston.com reports Harry, who is an army lieutenant in the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals, is purported to have made the remarks in 2006 in an airport departure lounge as soldiers waited to travel to Cyprus for training exercises. The newspaper said in a statement that in the video, Harry referred to one colleague as "our little paki friend" -- using a derogatory term for people of Pakistani origin. It reported that he called another cadet -- who was wearing a headscarf -- a "raghead." The newspaper said that the video was filmed by other cadets and supplied to the newspaper.

Ajay Devgan fined for smoking

Langda Tyagi is next. Paying Rs 200 for smoking in public fails to deter 100% - (exceptions) in public. For most of them Rs 200 is nothing, but yes an additional expense. I talked to a person who knows people responsible for fining. They have daily targets like sales targets and they achieve it easily. I also heard that state governments had deliberately told not to fine smokers till elections (That is what a paan waala told me). For Ajay and company paying Rs 200 is another way of making news. Maybe some publicity stunt for a new movie.

Alvida 2008

It has been a tough year for all of us. I completed my engineering after 4 years of Exams, travel and mindless mugups and surprisingly it was a successful endeavor and yes with the tensions, copy pastes, deadlines, attendance problems etc... The world economy has been hit badly; a million job cuts; fire-hire dramas; bankruptcy ... It all started with the Lehman Brothers which saw the full fury of the unforgiving consequences of mismanagement and the year now ends with Satyam and its board in rough seas. I don't want to talk much of terror . It is only tears and sorrow and I want to be happy while welcoming the first sun rise of 2009. Although, we'll talk about tackling it as the year 2009 begins. Israel's attack on the Gaza strip is a complete no-no but I appreciate their efforts to get rid of the problem of terrorism. Maybe they could've waited for 2009 and celebrated the new years party. In the spur of the moment we do things that do not always give the best resul...

CNG tribe

The CNG autos did a lot good for the people of Delhi and this effort by the government has been a commendable one. It did reduce a lot of pollution and the air has become less polluted than it was a few years back. The sight of fumes coming out of an auto is a rarity now. Although it is common in goods tempos, norms for them too need to be regulated. The mad rush to buy vehicles continued thanks to the new jobs created due to the BPO industry. Salaries increased and so did the standard of living. I have nothing against it but yes as it did deteriorate and we have no right to complaibnt about it since we are partly responsible for it. But looking at the auto rickshaw, the have gone through a lot because of the impositions on them by the government. Yes, the cheap gas also gave them better margins. Long queues at CNG stations and waiting of almost 3 hours at CNG station was there, but the tribe went through all that to make the metropolis better. The yellow and green brand of this trib...

Tension free

There have been lay offs , salary cuts and the whole world has been taken by storm. People are running to the east, to the west, north, south everywhere, not to search for god, but a job. Whoa! BOSS would have preferred to die hungry than to do all this. Anyways the hardworking (mehnat pasina) individual is busy to prove himself worthy of his role and salary in his/her cash stripped organization. To add to the tension is inflation. Inflation has acted like a magnifying glass to project the tension on our minds as ten fold. Before I talk more, let me tell you that I am not going to discuss about the fiscal stimulus or economic policies. I'll just be highlighting the ten fold tension to try to show you the preception of an unemployed youth about the current scenario. No it is not skewed, it is just tension free. The sugar free sweetner that diabetic patients use can be used as an analogy to the current scenario. We need a tension free life. The biggest problem is that people have exp...

Did you see that ? He just spit!

Hey, I was on a secret sting operation, which I am breaking now on my blog. I've been following BOSS for the last few days and today, I captured the images of his dirty PAAN spit across the newly built subway near my house. These images won't be new to you if you were in India and would be more common in Northern India. People especially from UP and Bihar have a habit of chewing PAAN and they spit it in any corner they find. But BOSS being an astute, crooked individual, came to know of my sting operation and he came after me. I managed to save myself but he took out his anger on the community rickshaw, breaking its wheel. It seems I'll have to manage my relationship with BOSS to get more of such sting operations to you.

Misleading Headlines

Misleading headlines often make it difficult for a reader to actually sort out the relevant information from the rest from an ocean of information on the web. I recently was reading stuff about finance in my google reader when suddenly, I came across this headliner : A software to estimate the time of death? Now firstly, the wrong headline in a wrong category, but an info hungry web surfer will not think twice before clicking on it. Thanks to the money hungry internet service operators, the slow speed of the internet gives you the time to think about the stuff that you are just about to encounter. And yes, I;m talking to you. What do you think is going to be there? A software with some arcane statistics that can precisely tell when you going to say goodbye to your family, friends and the evil terrorists of Pakistan. Well if not you are some strange exception, but atleast that’s what I thought. And what did it turn out to be ? Any guess ? It turned out to be Software that, using some i...

Masquerading silence

Hidden behind those fenced cages, lies a dragon of truth, That weeps fire for me to drown, Lay those in its belly that fed the behemoth, When the men in green, hung on to the bells of a forgotten temple. With a piece of metal, used by a butcher, I knew behind the lighted screen, was a dragon, Far ferocious than the dwarfed horror shown in my room, The world sat, and watched in a truth that was doomed. Like the pin drop, it blew again, in those agonizing hours, To say, I was lost, I would not lie, to say, I was afraid, I would not lie, Righteous were those men hanging on in green, As were those behind the scene. Like the allies of 1939, like the Jew in a Nazi camp, Came back the time, when I wanted them to be stamped, With the blood of those, who had nothing to do, With the bodies of those, that lay silent... With the tears of those whom the dragon had gulped, The blood and tears would still be a less to heal, Of what I have lost, in the mangled steel, But I know, your god and my god. B...

Experiential Tourism

Tourism is no longer exploring new places and cultures, but more an amalgamation of an experience driven adventure and new surroundings. The days of lazy holidays on a tropical island are still shining but people are increasingly being driven into having first hand experience of things making their trip a lasting memory rather than just another vacation. Offbeat adventure resorts and the demand for personal and customized holidays is in demand these days. In Bar Camp 5 , there was presentation by a person who escorted people on experiential trips and now has a business of over 5 crore, catering to the needs of corporate trips. A couple in Paris can choose from a variety of local experiences seeing paris by night, a cruise down the sienna river or the Moulin Rouge show. Travel has turned from a business of just logistics to a complete package of an experience centered trips. The decade of the 1990's had set this trend in the west, which is catching up in India with the advent of cor...

Review of India's performance

A united nations committee described India's performance as poor after reviewing India's performance after 17 years by the UN International Covenant on Economic, Social, and cultural rights in Geneva (Switzerland) , 6 months back, in May 2008. The reason, I've highlighted this is due to the fact that elections are round the corner and everyone is blabbering about their achievements and trying to denigrate the opposition, forgetting that they collectively have been a big failure. The UN committee asked India to "try harder". Trying harder is totally justified since our respected politicians (more of politics than leadership) our more concerned with "who" is in their state and who is not (Remember Raj). Their life starts and ends at vote bank. The delegation from India was grilled about the status of dalits, tribals and Muslims, and their arguments about the realization of the minority rights were not acceptable to the committee, which insisted that issues...

Diwali Fireworks : A display of illiteracy

illiteracy in India is not something new to us. If you look closely, about 90% of India's population is illiterate about the deteriorating state of environment. They are not aware of the damage being done to the society even after repeated attempts to civilize them and make them aware of the degrading environment. As I am writing this post, crackers are going out in my neighborhood park. An uncivilized family is displaying their show of illiteracy outside. Despite repeated attempts by the government and media, people still light crackers and go on and on. Not realizing the fact that they are killing their own environment and surroundings, they still burn excessive amount of crackers and the story gets bigger every year. If we go on at this rate, our very own world will end up soon.Compare the damage done by crackers to the damage done by cigarettes. Ambumani Ramadoss banned cigarettes in the capital and gave solid justification for it. What about crackers ? Aren't they damaging...

Diwali greetings

Dear Reader, Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Lights," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. On this auspicious occasion (irrespective of religion), I would like to wish you and your family a very happy Diwali. May this Diwali light the lamp of a race, which will lead you, India and all other countries towards a path of prosperity, happiness and peace. So lets all celebrate this beginning with fun, music, drinks (but no drinking and driving), dance and light our way into a newer brighter future. But please remember, no crackers please. Remember, your initiative will go a long way in saving the Earth and the especially the underprivileged children, who are forced to do child labour, and also loose their lives as a result of mishaps (The recent one in Bharatpur which killed 28 people including 12 children). Celebrate this diwali with lamps and music. Enjoy!!! Regards, Sushant...

India's energy print

The crunch of energy has led Indian strategists to believe that the only solution to India's power problems is Nuclear Power as a result we signed the Nuclear Deal to import fuel and technology. Power problems are faced by all developing nations and United States of America too went through such a crisis in the 70's. As a result of it, presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter promoted the use of renewable sources of energy like solar power and also increased the mileage standards for the automobiles from 13.5 miles per gallon to 27.5 miles per gallon. This helped to create a global oil glut during mid 1980's. But as things eased off, the focus was shifted. When Ronald Regan became the president, he let the tax incentives lapse for the Solar Energy Research Institute and stripped of the solar panels in the white house installed there at the time of Jimmy Carter. He also reduced the mileage standards to 26 miles per gallon. Looking at India's energy model, we are adopting ...

The Reality Package

Reality TV has become a phenomena amongst Indian viewers. There are different kinds of reality shows propping and the trend continues. The best thing in all this is the way it has been processed and packaged, just fit for the consumer, the viewer. So what is it that manages to catch so many eye balls, and creates an illusion of candid reality. The race for higher T.R.P's has converged the content of most of the reality shows on a single point. The concepts may be different, but idea of attracting audience, the same. The directors and creative heads of these shows are now taking bolder steps to ensure the T.R.P. success of their show. Under the magnifying glass, you can easily see the prefabricated cloth, the so called concept of these shows. The candid confession As one may call it, the confessions of an angry tiger, the candid confession is the part of reality show that enthralls us all. In an music reality show, a candidate might say, "I'll show Anu, the power of my sin...
