The Psychology of Hate – Sikh Gurdwara Massacre

Wade Michael Page on 5th August 2012, undertook a mass shooting that killed six people and wounded four others. The possible reason - Hate! Hate has been the reason in past for organized and individual acts of violence. One common reason for hate has been envy. Envy has long been held to be a harmful emotion involving the desire to deprive others of the qualities or possessions that they possess and we covet ( Belk 2011 ). Envy at its extremes is of two types - Benign envy and Malicious envy. Benign envy aims to level up. For example when our friend gets a good boss, we usually end up saying - "I am envious of your job". This is not destructive. Malicious envy on the other hand is destructive. Hatred is active, and envy passive dislike; there is but one step from envy to hate. ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Due to different governments, different backgrounds and other factors, every person does not get every good thing in life. SOPA, PIPA and impact on Emerging countries

The debate about SOPA & PIPA has oscillated between a pro-piracy/anti-piracy debate and a pro-censorship/anti-censorship debate, with the media companies choosing the former battle ground and the tech companies opting for the latter. Although it is not merely a propaganda war there is much at stake including the impact of emerging online activism in countries where internet is beginning to spread. The present Indian government has been in the habit of censoring public voice especially since the voice of public did not go down too well with it's governance mechanisms that included high a degree of corruption. These are a few thoughts I had about SOPA & PIPA with respect to emerging economies. 1. Correlation with Speech Censorship tools SOPA,PIPA use the same tools for censorship used by countries like China, known for violating human rights to suppress speech 2. Impact on Internet Transparency in Emerging Economies India, which seems to be a successful democracy rank...

Nokia has lost market share , suffered from declining profit margins and scrapped its smartphone operating system for future models, creating significant uncertainty for the firm’s future. There have been five major problems for Nokia.

Learning - The downfall of Emerging Economy

In an emerging economy, transfer of knowledge and technology from the developed economy  has been given a simple name - Learning .  India due to a better political setup (Democracy) as compared to China has had more of knowledge transfer. This has resulted in lower amounts of innovation. Problems are no longer challenging. For growth and development Indian firms with deeper pockets simply buy know-how, get rights for patents, and borrow processes and systems. In the bid to grow quickly and reduce uncertainty (characteristic of the average mind), innovation has not happened. Emerging economies to match their developed counterparts have spent little on research. The result is lack of innovation. Growth in these economies has been a more a contribution of learning rather than innovation. Learning although necessary results in herd mentality. Innovation in emerging economies thus has come from the less resourceful firm. Its been a consequence of challenge. Indian defense...
