NIA has come into effect from today. WoW! what a beginning to 2009. When, I look back at the swiftness of the pass of the bill, it seems like a corporate management has taken over the Indian democracy. The National Investigation Agency got the assent of the president, Shmt Pratibha Patil. I don't think there would have been much of problem there. Our presidents are mere puppets. What matters for India is in the hands of MPs with criminal records who have the votes. I can go on barraging my words filled with disgust on politicians, but lets be positive on the first day. The home minister, P Chidambaram and president Mrs Patil have also given a go ahead to the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill), which includes some rather strong anti-terror preventions bill. More over, the vacancies in the Intelligence Bureau are also being filled up on a priority basis. The home minister has also said that they'll be procuring 20,000 bullet proof jackets for police. On the face of it, it looks good. But is this sufficient to protect a 1.5 billion Indians ?
Facebook has been the dominant social network for quite a while and has an active user base of more than 1.3 billion. Its proliferation in the 18-35 years of age group (52%) makes it ideal for most advertisers. An interesting statistic to observe is the number of people accessing Facebook through Mobile. One of the biggest shifts in social media behavior has been its greater usage through mobile devices (in particular smartphones). According to a report , the internet traffic on mobile accounts for one forth the total internet traffic. Even more important is its growth, which is over 1.5 times per year and according to analysts would stay the same way in the years to come. This shift is even more significant for emerging economies where in a sector such as e-commerce organizations are witnessing close to 65% sales through mobile.
